NABMA Market Place to manage Stockport Market

NABMA Market Place are delighted to announce they have been contracted to deliver interim management solutions on behalf of Stockport Council at the historic Stockport Market, a well loved market that has played a central role in the lives of the local community for over 750 years.

NABMA Market Place offers a complete team of some of the most experienced and respected individuals from within the market industry, collectively bringing together over 100 years of market experience and knowledge within both the public and private sector. Whilst heritage means a great deal to NABMA Market Place it’s the future that counts. That’s why they are looking forward to working with Stockport Council to put in place a plan that will breathe fresh life into this historic market.

They will be working closely with current traders and visitors on raising the profile of their market whilst targeting new traders and shoppers to this historic part of the town helping to shape Stockport Market for future generations.

The Market currently operates on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday with a traditional offering in the fabulous Market Hall where you can find everything from knitwear to spectacles, pass the time of day or have lunch with friends in one of the cafes there, fresh produce can be found in the beautiful and historic Produce Hall and the unique vintage/retro section trades in the 20th century stores.  Complimenting all this is the flexible traditional street market.  If all this isn’t enough Stockport Market has a well-established monthly programme of specialty markets including the Award Winning Foodie Friday (last Friday of the month), the Book and Record Fair (1st Sunday of the Month), The Vintage Village (2nd Sunday of the Month) and The Hand Made Market (3rd Sunday of the month).

Extra to this and following the successful Family Fun Day in September a special Halloween Family Fun Day will take place in the market square on Saturday 29th October, followed by a Victorian Christmas Market Day on Saturday 26th November both offering a free and fun day out for the family whilst you shop.

Allan Hartwell, Managing Director of Market Place said ‘We are delighted to be working with Stockport Council and managing the market operation. Whilst our challenge is to build on the reputation of this market and enhance the offer, delivering a market that everybody can be proud of we also see a wonderful opportunity for the Market to play a key role in the regeneration of this historical area of Stockport. We aim to put this market up there with the best in the North West in terms of quality of traders, diversity of products and customer satisfaction.  Markets offer any town or city a real opportunity to bring people together. We are very excited about the potential of Stockport Market and we look forward to working with the Council and stakeholders to make this market a welcoming visitor experience.’

Stockport City Council said ‘We are very proud of the history of our market. Under the management of Market Place we have no doubt that Stockport Market will continue to serve as a central shopping experience. The excellent programme of events is also certain to ensure the market is a central gathering hub of the Town.’
